The History of White and Company

It was back in 1871 that Mr. White started his business in Portsmouth.  Our company is still owned by the White family today making it the largest (and possibly the oldest) family owned removals business in the UK with around 200 vehicles and over 450 staff.

In those days the company occupied itself transferring passengers’ baggage from the Atlantic liners to and from London.  Today we are involved in every aspect of the removals industry including: domestic, European, and international removals; household goods and archive storage; corporate shipping; and office relocation. We have 16 branches around the UK and the Channel Islands as well as offices in Majorca, Spain and Germany.

We are members of the British Association of Removers (including both BAR’s Commercial Moving Group and Overseas Group); are members of FIDI, the international removals federation that requires all members to operate to the globally-recognised FAIM (FIDI Accredited International Mover) standard, independently assessed by consultants Ernst & Young; we are founder members of OMNI (Overseas Moving Network International) a specialist global networking group for the world’s premier moving companies; and have achieved internationally-recognised standards for our services: BS EN 12522.  Our domestic moving services are carried out in accordance with the BAR Code of Practice approved by the OFT (Office of Fair Trading) codes approval scheme.

Although White and Company has a long history and an impressive list of professional accreditations, it remains a practical company. We know that to maintain our leading position we have to strive continually to achieve excellence in everything that we do. It’s that policy that has made us one of the world’s leading moving companies and that same policy that is essential to ensure.
