Bradford academy clamps down on uniform

Hanson Academy has barred more than 30 pupils in a clamp down on uniform.

The Academy’s head teacher Elizabeth Churton is taking a tough line on uniform. On Tuesday 152 pupils were asked to go home, on Wednesday 63 were asked to leave and on Wednesday last week, the third day of the clamp down another 33 were sent home.

The dress code does not allow pupils to wear hoop earrings, more than two earrings per ear or patterned trousers.  Unnatural coloured hair breaks the rules along with wearing jumpers, jackets or coats indoors.  Footwear has also come under scrutiny!

The school has received a very mixed reaction from both students and parents with complaints about the change of policy and the cost of buying new uniform.

Mrs Churton said: “We explained that students who arrived to school with a uniform issue that could be resolved would be sent home to rectify and parents would be contacted.

“As forewarned, some students were sent home for this reason.

“They were sent home to change and the majority rectified this immediately and returned to school ready to learn.”
