David Cameron pledges to bring back Portsmouth’s shipbuilding role The Prime Minister has vowed he will do everything in his power to revive shipbuilding in Portsmouth. It is understood that the government will be reviewing eight bids for the use of the city’s shipyard by the end November. David Cameron who visited Portsmouth on the 13th October said he is committed to seeing part of the premises remaining a hub for ship construction. Hundreds of skilled jobs have been put at risk after the defence giant BAE Systems decided to move its shipbuilding operation to Clyde, in Scotland.
