    Why Move to Tamworth?

Tamworth began as a Saxon settlement in the county of Staffordshire. It was then the Tame worth or the enclosure by the River Tame.

The town rose to importance due to King Offa of Mercia (a Saxon kingdom that roughly corresponded to the Midlands of England). Mercia continues to herald its importance with the discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard, the largest collection of Saxon gold ever found, unearthed not far from the Capital of Mercia. It has been dated from around 590 A.D to 750 A.D.

Its rich and tumultuous history is an interesting one however it was not until the 18th and 19th centuries that Tamworth’s population really exploded, due mostly to the Industrial Revolution which benefitted from the surrounding coal mines.

Now home to around 77,000 residents the town enjoys a high employment rate and its big business parks, bustling streets and strong access roads, means it has continued to prosper.

Large companies such as UPS and Ocado have bases in the town. The sectors of engineering and manufacturing feature highly and there are always jobs related to these industries available in the town.

A multitude of new homes have been built to deal with the surge of newcomers seeking to make Tamworth their home and once here few leave, choosing instead to either upscale or down scale.

The average cost of a home is an appealing £242,000 so it’s easy to see why it is such a popular town to relocate to.

Locals have access to some very convenient shopping places. Ventura Retail Park, Jolly Sailor Retail Park and Cardinal Point are just ten minutes on foot from the town centre. They feature many high street stores and supermarkets. Their location, just off the A5, makes is convenient for visitors and residents, with ample parking available.

Having been granted market status way back in 1319, this traditional market continues to this day. Held every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. There are around 100 stalls selling a wide range of products including fresh produce, household, and clothes items.

Tamworth’s very real sense of community, affordable housing, its clean and well-maintained centre and neighbourhoods make it a great place to live and raise a family.

    Tamworth Schools & Education

For the most part schools across the area are good. Tamworth has around 27 primary schools, but this number is increasing due to new developments.

There are five secondary schools available, a sixth form centre and a branch of South Staffordshire College and a couple of private institutions a little further out.

With regards to Ofsted rated schools, Flax Hill Junior Academy, Ashcroft Infants’ School, Lark Hall Infant & Nursery Academy and St Leonard’s CofE (A) Primary School are all “good”.

A large number of primary school children choose to go to the two closest secondaries: The Rawlett School (An Aet Academy) and Landau Forte Academy, QEMS. Both “good” says Ofsted.

A campus of the South Staffordshire College is based in Tamworth. It provides a wide range of vocational courses for prospective students interested in the area of engineering, motor vehicle workshops, hair and beauty salons and it has a dedicated catering and hospitality facility. In 2019, the college was named best in West Midlands for its apprenticeship achievement.
