Flood defences West Bay beach

Flood defences at West Bay beach in Dorset Flood defence work is being carried out at West Bay beach to return the sea defences to their original state after the beach was stripped of shingle by sever weather and strong tides. Stage one of the planned work will last around two weeks and will include rebuilding the rock groyne and adding new shingle to the beach. A second phase of work is due to take place in early 2015. Pedestrian and vehicle access along the western Esplanade will remain open, but there will be no parking spaces available while the work is underway. Council leader Robert Gould said the work “must be done to ensure the area has the best possible resistance against any future severe weather. The work will take place out of season to minimise disruption and we would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and understanding.”
