Forres High Street paving gets the thumbs-up!
Most people seem to approve of the new paving on Forres High Street, which looks to be finished ahead of time if the good weather continues.
However, there was a mixed reaction from the local shopkeepers. The dry cutting of the old pavement certainly got a bad reaction, causing a cloud of dust to settle along the high street and all over cars and shop windows.
On the plus side, Sandra Davidson from Home Comforts said there had been an increase in trade. She said: “The traffic lights were right outside my shop, so cars were slowing down and people were looking in my windows.”
Sue West from Sues News felt quite the opposite, she complained she had “lost trade” while the work was being done outside her newsagents. She added: “People normally park in the layby opposite the shop and come in, and they haven’t been able to do that this week because of the parking restrictions.” She added: “I can tell by comparing figures from last year, that my till is well down.”
Moray Council apologised for inconvenience caused and advised motorists and pedestrians to exercise extra care during the works.
