Giant poppies in Aldershot town centre
Poppies are popping up everywhere across Surrey and Hampshire for this year’s Remembrance commemorations on Sunday 9th November.
Aldershot town centre has been adorned with dozens of giant poppies as well as along Deepcut Bridge Road and around Camberley town centre, creating a moving symbol of peace. They mark the centenary of the 1914-18 War and will stay on display until after Armistice Day on the 11th November.
Rushmoor Borough Council and the Royal British Legion have placed nearly 300 poppies in Princes Gardens Community Bandstand and lampposts along Union Street and Wellington Street.
The Royal British Legion is hoping to raise in excess of 40m this year to support serving and ex-serving members of the Armed Forces and their families.
The Rushmoor Concert Band will be holding two special Remembrance concerts. The first is at St Peter’s Church in Farnborough on November 8th, starting at 7.30pm. The second concert will be held at St Paul’s Church in Tongham on November 15th, starting at 3pm.
Tickets for both concerts are £5.00 each and are available from the respective churches.
All the money raised will go to the poppy appeal. A collection will also be held on behalf of Help for Heroes.
