Things to do in Accrington
Although the town is situated close to the city of Manchester which offers a whole host of attractions, Accrington itself has many landmarks and attractions of its own.
Accrington is well known for having the most extensive collection of colourful Tiffany glass in Europe. Joseph Briggs, a local man from Accrington, worked as the art director for Tiffany’s and designed some of the fabulous pieces himself. The Haworth Art Gallery houses an extensive collection of the famous ‘Tiffany Glass’.
Accrington is overlooked by The Coppice, which is a large area of natural beauty and is a popular spot for dog walkers and runners. On bright days the views from the top, range all the way to Blackpool and beyond.
Join the Accrington Acorn Trail. A leisurely walk around the centre of the town takes you from the magnificent Town Hall, built-in 1858 at the height of Accrington’s textiles success, along Willow Street with its imposing houses and past Carnegie Library to the oldest part of town along Warner Street. If you go to Accrington and don’t explore its surreal countryside, you have made a mistake. Serious walkers will revel in the 31-mile circular Hyndburn Clog, which passes through remarkably diverse landscape. This being said, you don’t have to be a serious walker as the Hyndburn Clog is broken down into seven (far more reasonable) stages!

Finding a school in the town will not pose too much of a problem as there are 34 to choose from depending on exactly which neighbourhood you decide to move to.
Many primaries are reported to be “good” says Ofsted. Among some of these, are: Accrington Huncoat Primary School, Accrington Woodnook Primary School, Accrington Benjamin Hargreaves Primary and Baxenden St John’s Church of England Primary. Accrington Peel Park Primary School and St Oswald’s Roman Catholic Primary School were both rated as “outstanding”.
There are seven secondary schools in the district, and each year they compete with each other to achieve better results. This culminated in the Hollins Technology College winning an award from SSAT for fantastic progress.
The Hollins Secondary School is also within the top 3% in the country and well known for its development.
The closest college is Accrington & Rossendale College (‘Across’), an award-winning further education College which specialises in vocational education.
Nearby universities include University Centre at Blackburn College and the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Property prices across the town are incredibly reasonable and there is plenty of choice with regards to style too. Characterful terraces, once home to mill workers, are very sought after.
