    Why Move to Barnsley?

Situated to the east of the Pennines in the county of South Yorkshire, Barnsley is a borough of contrasts, consisting of 10 towns and 23 villages.

The towns culture is deeply rooted in its industrial heritage. It has a tradition of brass bands, originally created as social clubs by its once thriving mining communities.

Located at the heart of England with excellent motorway links from the M1, M62 and A1. Two large cities are within easy travelling distance by road and rail; Leeds which is 25 miles to the north and Sheffield, 17 miles to the south, reflecting Barnsley’s position within two city regions.

Although well connected, the town surprisingly consists of 70% rural land and as such has become a much sought-after place to set up home. Barnsley’s sports and leisure facilities are also superb. There is also the town’s renowned 700-year-old market and plenty of high street stores for shoppers.

Barnsley is a thriving town, recently recording the greatest rate of private sector jobs growth in the whole of the UK. Whilst the town is home to many blossoming smaller businesses it also has its fair share of highly successful small, medium and large companies across a range of sectors.

Ardagh Group, one of Europe’s biggest door and window manufacturers and the fashion clothing company ASOS have bases in the town and employ large numbers of local residents.

Over time there have been many changes to the town centre. £6million worth of renovation is currently well under way (with some already completed) on the latest project which Barnsley Council has named The Glass Works.

When finished, it will house a 13-screen cinema, dozens of shops and restaurants. The vision is to connect the community with a fantastic place for people to meet, shop and play.

As well as boasting excellent amenities, beautiful countryside, a castle and a 17th Century mill on its doorstep, Barnsley centre is bustling with attractions both old and new.

This traditional market town is on the up, thanks to its new development and regeneration, living in Barnsley delivers the best of what South Yorkshire has to offer.
