    Why Move to Slough?

One of Sloughs main attractions is its convenient location. With only a 20-minute train journey to Paddington Station, it also has direct access to the M4 motorway and is within 10 minutes’ drive of the M25, Europe’s busiest road, plus, it is just 10 minutes from Heathrow and 45 from Gatwick.

Slough also has plenty of open spaces to enjoy the great outdoors with public parks and play areas, sports fields, riverside walks, woodlands, gardens and natural landscapes within its borders. This Berkshire town attracts large numbers of professionals who are ready to quit the fast lane the capital offers and settle down and have a family.

Sloughs other lure is that it has some very affordable accommodation options. Renting or buying are both cheaper when compared to London.

Simply put, Slough has pretty much every service or amenity you could possibly need. From great schools through to a really good town centre.

It also offers plenty of modern or traditional housing stock and access to some lovely countryside living found in rural villages such as Cippenham, Britwell and Langley.

Shaking off its somewhat dowdy reputation, the £400 million “Heart of Slough Project” has resulted in an epic transformation injecting new life into the town.

Improvements including upgrading of landmarks, public spaces, entertainment venues and business builds have already taken place, significantly enhancing Sloughs character and status.

Additionally, plans include a bid to change Slough from a town to a city and it is hoped a new university will be built as a result. The Slough of the present is exciting, the Slough of the future even more so.

    Slough Schools & Education

Newcomers moving to the area have access to an abundance of educational opportunities. There are numerous primary and secondary schools in Slough, many of which have excellent reputations.

St Mary’s Church of England Primary School, Willow Primary School and Littledown School are all located close to the town centre and each have been judged as being “good” by Ofsted.

Well regarded secondaries include St Joseph’s Catholic High School and The Langley Academy also both received a rating of “good” from Ofsted following their most recent inspections.

As well as state funded schools, Slough also has several private establishments Including the renowned Eton College – the boys’ school attended by previous Prime Minister David Cameron and numerous of his predecessors – located just a few minutes away by car.

Places at Sloughs grammar schools are highly prized. These include Burnham Grammar School, Herschel Grammar, Langley Grammar, Upton Park Grammar and St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar.

Further education is supplied by East Berkshire College whilst higher education can be found at several universities. Brunel University, the University of Reading and Royal Holloway, University of London, are all within reach in approximately half an hour of Slough.

    Things to do in Slough

Finding something to do in your down time is easy. Not only does Slough itself pose a good selection of entertainment and visitor attractions, the capital city is so conveniently situated nearby.

Stoke Park Country Club boasts a fabulous golf course, tennis courts, hotel and spa. Stoke Park has also been the location for many famous films such as Goldfinger and Bridget Jones Diary.

With its proximity to the River Thames, as well as neighbouring prestigious country landmarks such as Windsor and Eton, Slough is home to more than 630 acres of open green space spread across 60 public parks, recreational grounds and woodland areas scattered across the Borough.

If you like to shop, head for Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre. Home to 120 stores to suit every taste, from high street retailers to independent boutiques, plus an Empire Cinema hosting one of the largest 3D screens in Berkshire.

National Cycle Network route 61 runs through central Slough. There’s nice tree lined sections and views of the surrounding open countryside.

The route starts on the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City and runs through Letty Green before finishing at Hertford. It’s a popular choice for those trying to keep active.

    Slough Property

The towns housing stock comprises of predominantly early- to mid-20th-century properties. However, its growth over the years has encompassed several outer-lying villages which now also function as attractive suburbs.

Even more recently, the building of new homes has occurred which means that the town now offers buyers much more diversity with new modern apartments and new build estates with a variety of 2,3, and 4 bedroom brand new homes too.

The average cost to buy here is currently £400,933. Expensive some would say but compare that to London’s latest figure of £671,989 and you can see why so many are leaving the city and opting to purchase a house in Slough for what is generally a much larger home for a lot less money.

Some of the most desirable areas of the town are Rambler Lane, here you will find a selection of 1945 and upwards homes which have big gardens and lots of internal space. More affordable terraces can be found close to Slough town centre, within easy reach of Slough mainline station (Crossrail) and its High Street.
