    The town has nine primary schools and two independent primary schools, South Lee School and Moreton Hall Preparatory School. All were rated as “good” or above by Ofsted.

    Of the secondaries, King Edward VI C of E Upper is “good”; St Benedict’s Catholic and Bury St Edmunds County Upper both “outstanding”.

    The town’s largest further education provider is West Suffolk College, with over 10,000 students. The college is currently being expanded following a £7m government grant to help pay for an £8m energy, engineering and manufacturing teaching centre.
