Leisure if Moving to Finchley
Stephens House and Gardens is a large Victorian mansion (Grade II listed) situated on East End Road in Finchley. It was built on this site in 1859, on land which was then known as Temple Croft Field.
It was bought in 1874 by Mr. Henry Charles Stephens (the ink Magnate) who expanded and improved the house and grounds with advice from Robert Marnock a famous landscaper of the times.
When Mr. Stephens passed away, in his will he left the estate to Finchley District Council with the proviso that it be opened for the general public.
Today it is a lovely place to visit, beautiful paths with all sorts of trees, plants and ponds along the way. The house itself has all sorts of artifacts and memorabilia. An interesting way to spend a few hours.
The Clissold Arms is a laid-back, family-orientated pub situated between Muswell Hill and East Finchley in North London. Pop in for lunch and savour the great food this gastro pub has to offer.
Interestingly, the pub is dedicated to the 1960s group “The Kinks”, the band played their very first gig here and their last one in 1996 too! There is a whole room full of memorabilia dedicated to them
