Set in the southern county of Hampshire in the Test Valley through which the river Anton flows, Andover is a charming and lively commuter town. An ancient area which has been inhabited for an extremely long time. Andover’s first mention in history is in 950 when King Edred is recorded as having built a royal hunting lodge there.

Among some of the “outstanding” rated primaries are Clatford Church of England Primary School, Anton Junior School and Balksbury Infant School.
The “outstanding” Wolverdene Special School is a special, state funded junior school for boys and girls which caters for primary-age children who are experiencing social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
The only further education provider for the town is Andover College. It offers a range of academic and vocational courses to school leavers, adults, employers, and the wider local community.
Previously known as Cricklade College, the College changed its name following a merger with Sparsholt College Hampshire, forming one of the largest colleges in Hampshire.
Things to do in Andover
Andover does very well indeed with regard to entertaining its residents. No matter what your age or interests, there is always something to do.
Wander through the centre of town and you will find all sorts of interesting evidence of Andover’s heritage however, a visit to the Museum of the Iron Age traces the town’s roots over the last 2,800 years.
Thruxton Motorsport Centre is located nearby. Drive your dream car on the UK’s fastest race circuit. The centre has over 35 years’ experience and a huge fleet of supercars, sports cars and racing cars to choose from. A very exciting and atmospheric venue.
The Museum of Army Flying is packed with historic helicopters, aeroplanes, kites and gliders, dioramas, exhibits and displays, all telling the story of “soldiers in the air” from late 19th century balloons to the present day and attack helicopters.
For younger children, Finkley Farm Park is a firm family favourite. There are so many great things to do such as meeting the Rabbits, Goats, Alpacas and Clydesdale Horses. There is a timetable of Hands-on Activities that run all day long as well as a Giant Indoor Play Barn perfect for visits all year round.
The Chantry Centre is the largest shopping centre in the region. Located in a prominent position in the town centre, shoppers flock to enjoy the wonderful selection of 60 stores it provides.
Property prices
It is true that much of Andover has been redeveloped with work still ongoing at two large sites: The Paddocks, consisting of around 1,200 homes when complete and Saxon Heights, another prestigious development of new properties.
