Why Move to Welwyn Garden City

Many ex-Londoners have already seen the benefit of leaving the capital and settling in Welwyn Garden City or (WGC). The biggest and most obvious appeal to this leafy Hertfordshire town is that it offers a conveniently quick commute direct into Kings Cross station at just 26 minutes. As well as posing fast rail links into London, Welwyn Garden City also sits alongside the A1 so, has easy access to the M25 via road to the South as well as the Midlands and the North.

Homes are reasonably priced, yet another bonus, and there are plenty of them for sale, so no matter where you sit on the property ladder, there will be a home in the town to suit your budget. Sir Ebenezer Howard founded Welwyn Garden City.

During the 1920s there was a call for the creation of new planned towns of limited size consisting of low-density suburban developments situated close to agricultural land. Thereby creating the perfect balance of town and countryside. Hence the town is visually very pleasingly with a good number of open spaces and green areas for its 44,000 residents to enjoy.

The economy of WGC is thriving.

Some of the UK’s top companies have offices here, including Tesco’s, Nestle’s factory producing cereals, Xerox and Roche, and other high-tech food processing chains and electronic companies. As you would expect for a town this size, there is a huge assortment of social activities to partake in.

Annual festivals such as the World Food Festival are extremely popular events. Award winning community projects include the Anglia in Bloom flower display competition at which WGC recently managed to bag a gold medal. This town has a whole lot going for it – once people move here, they settle quickly and very often remain for life.
