Hungry Horse pubs condemned for selling 1,966 calorie Double Donut Burger

The Hungry Horse pub chain has been slatted for selling a new double donut burger containing 1966 calories or to put it in perspective, almost the entire recommended daily calorie intake for a woman.

The pub chain that has a number of outlets across Hampshire has launched the double donut burger, which includes two beef burgers, four smoked bacon rashers, melted cheese and BBQ sauce all served up in two grilled donuts.

The Hungry Horse refers to the burger as “bizarre but brilliant”.

Mel Wakeman, a senior lecturer at Birmingham City University said:  “Hungry Horse obviously have no conscience and no doubt both their wallet and the size of their customers will be getting fatter by the week.

“To me, this is simply ludicrous and irresponsible.

I am no killjoy but why is this sort of food available? This burger is literally a heart attack on a plate.

“Why can’t they include on the menu what the customer would need to do to burn all those calories off? In the case of this Double Donut Burger, around three hours of continuous running should just about do it. I wonder how many people would still opt for the item knowing this.”

Should you wish to try this new high calorie delicacy, it should be available at the following Hungry Horse establishments:  the Big Cheese, Fleming Arms, Dolphin and the Old Farmhouse all in Southampton and the New Clock Inn in Fair Oak, the Seagull in Fareham and the Shamblehurst Barn in Hedge End.
