    Why Move to Ascot

Ascot is Berkshires’ Royal Town which actually consists of three areas – Ascot itself, North Ascot, and South Ascot. The town is very accessible sitting between Bracknell and Virginia Water and just five miles from the M3. The local train station has services which run direct into Waterloo as well as to Reading and Guildford.

Everyone knows that Ascot is known as a world-famous horse race venue, complete with posh frocks fancy hats and more than a few drops of champers. The venue is also a major employer for the area providing jobs to around 100 full time and as many as 6000 temporary staff.

Races aside, Ascot is also home to around 68,000 people too, a warm and lively town with plenty of upmarket shops and fine dining options. As far as entertainment goes, as well as having a top-notch racecourse, Ascot has other notable attractions on its doorstep. Great Windsor Park, Windsor Castle and Wentworth Golf Club are also nearby and all this within an hour of London on the train.

Unfortunately, all these benefits do come at a price with Ascot being the tenth most expensive location in which to buy a home outside of London.

For those who can afford the hefty property prices, Ascot offers a quick escape from the capital. A little haven providing those who live here with leafy suburbs close to the beautiful Berkshire countryside combined with exceptional travel links.

    Schools & Education

Schooling in the area is considered exceptional.

Local to Ascot are some of the most prestigious Schools in the country, not a complete surprise seeing as there is so much wealth in the area.

Some of the more eminent schools are Eton College, Wellington College and St. Mary’s but there are other schools with just as much kudos as these.

There is of course plenty to choose from when it comes to private education, popular choices include Heathfield School (an all-girls boarding school) and St. George’s School (a private girl’s senior school, attended by Princess Beatrice of York).

State primary schools also pose some serious contenders. Ascot Heath Primary Cranbourne Primary School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in nearby Bracknell have all performed well and are rated by Ofsted as “outstanding”.

Older children can attend Charters School, the catchment areas closest secondary. The school has a sixth form and is located in Sunningdale around 3 miles from Ascot, it was rated as “outstanding” following is last inspection.

    Things to do in Ascot

There is no doubt that the region surrounding Ascot has some fantastic places to visit.
Attractions for all the family include Windsor Castle, Legoland, Thorpe Park, Virginia Water Lake and Savill Garden.

Ascot racecourse is the centrepiece of the town. It offers racegoers 26 meets over the year. The main event “Royal Ascot” is firmly fixed in the British social calendar. Attended by the Queen and held each June it is arguably the world’s most famous race meeting. Steeped in history dating back to 1711, it attracts over 600,000 visitors annually.

Luxury golf courses are dotted throughout the region. The Royal Ascot Golf Club, the Mill Ride Golf & Country Club and Wentworth host some very prestigious golfing events including the BMW PGA Championships.

Windsor Castle embodies almost 1,000 years of architectural history and is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Open to visitors throughout the year, it is a wonderful opportunity to experience the lavish lifestyles of royals past and present. Packed full of spectacular art and antiques, plus you can wander through grounds and visit the chapel.

Bedgebury National Pinetum is the perfect place to walk, cycle, ride or play in a spectacular world of trees. It is also the home of, Go Ape. This action-packed family attraction is fantastic. Zip wires, rope swings, tree top walkways and much more provide everything you need for an exciting day out.

    Property prices

Wealthy buyers will and do pay high prices for property in Ascot and there are plenty of upmarket homes to choose from.

Plenty of large, detached homes are clustered around the racecourse and naturally command particularly high prices where it is not the least bit unreasonable to expect to pay upwards from £4,350,000.

Although the average cost to purchase a home in Ascot stands at £875,236 – smashing the National average, prices are still more affordable than nearby Virginia Waters where the average cost to own your own property is currently running at £1,500,000.

For cheaper options head towards the outskirts of town, for £219,500 you can purchase a one-bedroom flat which is within an easy distance to Ascot railway station.

More modestly priced family homes can also be found just off the main London Road. Still close to amenities, you can purchase a three-bedroom detached property here for around £450,000.
