Why move to Knaresborough

Knaresborough is a quintessential Yorkshire market and spa town, located on the river Nidd about four miles east of Harrogate. Known mostly as a commuter town it shares excellent railway links to most Yorkshire cities — 10 minutes to Harrogate, 30 minutes to York and 45 minutes to Leeds.

However, to suggest it is just a place to rest your head would be to do this great town a serious injustice. From critically acclaimed gastro pubs serving the finest ale and pies to vintage tea shops, Knaresborough has boutique eateries in abundance. With plenty of crags and valleys and the Yorkshire dales only a short drive away there are no shortage of places of natural wonder to explore.

The town centre is perched on the cliffs and offers picturesque views of the imposing railway viaduct across the Nidd Gorge. Across the river is a famous thermal spring with such high mineral levels that its dripping waters literally turn dangling objects to stone.

Property prices are affordable too for the luxury of countryside living with plenty of different options ranging from period properties, vintage cottages to pleasant suburb developments. There are also plenty of excellent choices for sending your kids to school with Aspin park recently declared ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.

Things to do in Knaresborough

The town has a small tourism industry and its largest event is the annual Great Knaresborough Bed Race, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Participants are given a theme each year and decorate themselves and their beds before racing through the town.

It is also home to England’s oldest attraction, Mother Shipton’s Cave, an eerie cave once home to an eccentric prophetess.
If you are planning a day out, there is plenty to do in and around, including the following
