    Why Move to Thailand?

Widely regarded as the ‘Land of smiles’, Thailand is famed for its diverse landscapes, splendid beaches and delectable dishes. Influenced heavily by Buddhist traditions, Thai culture and people are both warm and welcoming.

Far from just an exotic holiday destination, more and more Brits are being drawn to the laid-back expat lifestyle.

From the busy and bustling major cities of Bangkok and Phuket to the idyllic island escapes of Koh Samui and Koh Lanta Thailand covers all tastes.

There are, however, some drawbacks to locating yourself here full time. It is incredibly difficult to own land or property and visa regulations and local customs can be tricky and burdensome.

Having said that, for those who can navigate such initial difficulties, you can expect to have a relaxing life in a pleasurable climate with a low cost of living.

    Working & living in Thailand

Teaching English is the most common type of work available. Generally, the highest paying teaching jobs are at the many international schools in Thailand. There are also various English language schools to cope with the demand for learning English.

Many expats also find work in the tourist and hospitality industries or by opening up their own businesses.

You should make yourself aware however of the various local customs and rules which are often seen as penalising farangs (foreigners).

There are also a good variety of international companies based in the larger cities such as Bangkok, including PwC, Hewlett Packard, IBM, and Siemens. These types of jobs and transfers tend to be secured prior to arriving in Thailand.

After securing a job and getting the appropriate visa, you will need to get a work permit for Thailand and will need to meet the following requirements:

    Have your original passport
    Passport-sized photo
An employer’s letter confirming the job appointment
    Qualification certificates
    Proof of residence in Thailand
