Why Move to Rayleigh?

Sitting between Chelmsford and sunny Southend-on-Sea, this very unique market town ticks an awful lot of boxes. A great selection of shops, open spaces including a number of large parks and playing fields, and other things to do located right on your doorstep all with the additional benefit of having very handy transport links.

It is a small town with a population of around 33,000. A pretty place which has retained much of its traditional character. Each Wednesday, there is a lively outdoor market in the town’s High Street which dates back to before 1181 when it was inscribed in the Exchequer Records of Henry II. In recent years, the market has seen a regeneration, with many new stalls and a wider choice of goods available.

Rayleigh was once home to an important Norman castle (now run by the National Trust), which once defended the area, although all that exists today are the earthwork remains of its large motte-and-bailey it makes an interesting place to visit.

Many residents commute the 40-minute journey into London for work or even quicker into Chelmsford, a short 20-minute car ride away. A typical location for those who want to experience the easier laid-back lifestyle and safety factor a small town offers without compromising on getting to larger places when necessary, in good time.

For that added extra, Rayleigh is just 6 miles from the large coastal town of Southend-on-Sea which boasts the longest leisure pier in the world plus lots of other beachy activities.
