Hawley School recreates Tower of London poppies
Pupils have recreated the moving Tower of London poppy display at Hawley Place School.
After the pupils had gone on a school trip to the battlefields, they decided to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the start of the First World War, by producing more than 560 ceramic poppies over the past three months.
Moin Ghani, deputy of the Hawley Place Parents’ Teacher Association, initiated the project. He said: “Our goal is to educate the pupils about the commemoration by involving them with every stage of production and being able to see the poppies on display at school.”
The principal of the school, Michael Stone said: “We are fortunate to have such an active and involved PTA, who through their commitment and dedication to the school have produced an outstanding memorial to those who gave, and continue to give, their lives for us.
“The entire Hawley community has been involved in this inspirational activity which will be remembered for many years to come.”
The school is hoping to raise more than £2000 by selling the Hawley ceramic poppies; the money will donate to the Royal British Legion.
