Hedge End was inhabited by the Belgae tribe prior to the Roman conquest so there has been people living in this area for centuries. The exact origin of the name Hedge End is uncertain, but it was in use by the beginning of the 18th century when it was well known in the region for strawberry growing, its town emblem reflects this history.
Located within the boundary of Southampton City it adjoins the districts of West End and Botley. In the past 30 years Hedge End has grew rapidly Hedge End from a small village into a busy market town with the arrival of the M27 motorway, which led to the population of the Southampton suburb to soar.

Deer Park School for 11-18 years has a proposed opening date of September 2021 and provision initially for 120 students, growing year on year to full capacity of 1050 students by 2027.
Further education is from several colleges. Eastleigh College, Peter Simmonds, Barton Peveril and Southampton City College all offer a huge range of courses for the 16–18-year age group.
Higher education opportunities are available at Southampton University. A top 15 UK university, offering courses from over 65 subject areas which are informed by the latest research and taught by world-renowned academics.
Things to do in Hedge End
There is always something to entertain you when you live in Hedge end. It has some great places of its own to visit and it also offers a huge variety of things to do and see in the wider county of Hampshire.
Close to home, the small main shopping area has a Co-op supermarket, a newsagent several hairdressers and banks as well as a post office, Chemist an Indian restaurant and a chip shop.
Where Hedge End really comes into its own is out-of-town shopping. Via a number of superstores, you can purchase pretty much anything from furniture, clothing and food to electricals, pet supplies and anything DIY related.
