The market town of Fareham in Hampshire sits nicely between the large cities of Portsmouth and Southampton. Originally known as Ferneham, it was listed in the Domesday Book as having 90 households. The town and surrounding area were once an important location for the manufacturer of bricks, most notably used to build the Royal Albert Hall.

Whilst the south facing location enabled farmers to grow strawberries and other seasonal fruits which were transported around the region including London. Following the 1960’s South Hampshire Plan, Fareham’s population swelled. Today it has developed into a major market town benefitting from an impressive shopping complex and an idyllic waterside location.

The area continues to undergo development. Thousands of new homes, road improvements and changes to its layout, updated shopping precinct and a VUE cinema along with a large Tesco store have made it a popular relocation choice. Fareham offers easy access to the south coast, so it is no surprise that many people in Fareham enjoy water sports.

There is also the opportunity to venture into the South Downs or New Forest National Parks, both of which are an easy drive away. As far as accessibility goes, Fareham beats many towns in the South. Sitting just on the outskirts of town is the main M27 which links to the M3 giving access to all parts of the south of England by road. The historic city of Portsmouth is just 15 minutes by car and the larger city of Southampton is about 20-25 mins by car.

The town has its own large train station from which you can reach London, in just over an hour and a half direct into Waterloo station as well as lots of other regions up and down the country. The beautiful Isle of Wight is just a short ferry, hovercraft or hydrofoil ride from Fareham, a popular seaside destination for those holidaying in the UK.
