You cannot visit Scotland without taking a guided tour of the Glen Moray distillery. Single malt whisky has been distilled here on the banks of the River Lossie just outside of Elgin, for nearly 120 years.
The whisky produced here has been made in the same way by hand since the beginning, thus ensuring its unique flavour. You will be taken through the distillery and your guide will explain the process: At the end of the tour you have a chance to taste and buy the whisky. A great way to spend a couple of hours.
Have a wander around Elgin’s town centre. It has a small pedestrian area with several little streets running off it. Some of the old architecture is interesting, there is an old Victorian water fountain and a war memorial.
The classical building dominating the centre is Saint Giles Church, built to replace the Cathedral in 1825 built on the site of the Muckle Kirk, it is the town’s Parish Church, so different in style to any other churches in Scotland.
You will find an assortment of shops, bars restaurants and cafes. A pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by.
