    Why Move to Rochester?

An ancient city which is now classed as a town, Rochester is watched over by its impressive Cathedral and Norman castle ruins. During the late medieval period, the castle helped protect England’s southeast coast from invasion. Steeped in history, Rochester is bounded by the maritime traditions and spirit of past British naval dominance on the River Medway.

One of four Medway towns in Kent “The Garden of England”, Rochester has been attracting thousands of visitors for many years. Visitors and locals can enjoy its beautiful high street lined with pretty old buildings, quaint shops, and boutiques and of course its cathedral and castle it is a very interesting place to live or visit.

The lively town holds an assortment of events throughout the year including the Dickens Festival. A celebration of all things Charles Dickens who spent some of his life in Rochester and based many of his novels around locations in the area. The well-attended Christmas festival brings the streets alive with stalls, carol singers, and lamp-lit parades.

A number of local parks serve as green spaces for residents, Victoria Gardens, Jacksons Fields, and The Esplanade are popular areas for outdoor activities. The Esplanade runs alongside the pretty River Medway where you can book a boat tour and view the town from a different aspect.

Sitting close to the M2, M20, and M25 getting around by car is easy. Excellent rail links with Rochester station offer fast services to London Victoria, a journey of around 45 minutes, and into St Pancreas in 34 minutes making Rochester prime commuter territory.

For leisure purposes, the coastal towns of Whitstable, Herne Bay, and Margate are all under an hour by train, so planning a day by the seaside is easy. If you are looking for an up-market location packed full of charm and character along with a range of exciting amenities situated close to the Capital, Rochester could be right up your street!

    Schools & Education

Stretching right back to the 7th century Rochester has had a strong educational tradition. Just what you want to hear if you are moving to the town with children.

State and private schools are available from nursery to secondary level and most schools in the town have achieved at least an Ofsted rating of “good”.

St Peter’s Infant School, Crest Infant School, St Margaret’s at Troy Town C of E Voluntary Controlled Primary School, and Balfour Junior Academy have been inspected and Ofsted has considered them all to be “good” schools.

Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School, a state-funded senior school for boys, and The Rochester Grammar School for girls are the town’s best-performing secondaries having been awarded the highly prized “outstanding” rating.

Two independent schools are available. The internationally famous King’s School (which is co-ed, ages 3 to 18) is the second oldest school in the world.

The much younger Rochester Independent College was established in 1984. The college is in the top 5% of schools in England for progress at A-level with many students gaining entry to top universities.

Further education institutes include Mid Kent College which annually enrols 6000 students from Medway, Maidstone, and beyond.
