    Why Move to Bridport?

The quirky little regional town of West Dorset is really exceptional. It has all the qualities and more we have come to expect from a town in Dorset.

It is classed as a Beacon Town recognised for the high quality and variety of its local food.

A vibrant mix of town, sea, and country life, all come together to make a special place and one that is recognised not just locally but nationally, regularly being named as either the best place to live in Britain or the happiest. It possesses a very strong, sociable, and friendly community.

Bridport probably holds the highest number of festivals in Dorset throughout the year including book, film, beer, folk, Christmas, food, rock and hat festivals.

The huge bonus of buying a home here is that considering its idyllic location by UK standards it has pretty reasonably priced property.

Bridport also has the benefit of some very unusual shops. Its antique quarter is well known with keen collectors as well as some who love to browse these sometimes “off the wall” independents.

Having been in operation for hundreds of years Bridport’s historic market continues to this day. Located on the three principal streets of South, East and West Street which converge at the iconic Town Hall.

Just over a mile from Bridport is West Bay. The endearing little harbour town has become more known by its TV name Broadchurch, where the series was filmed. Its where everyone goes to spend time by the sea.

In addition to the market heritage, Bridport is world famous for its rope and net manufacturing. An important centre for the production of rope, twine, netting and sailcloth, originally made from flax and hemp, from the 13th Century and possibly earlier.

With a heritage as successful as Bridport has, its friendly vibrant cultural community and award-winning restaurants and local food producers, the combination is irresistible and creates a very agreeable place in which to live as well as just to visit.

    Bridport Schools & Education

The town and the whole of West Dorset are served by excellent primary and secondary schools plus a number of prep/private and special schools.

Ofsted, the Government education watchdog has rated Bridport, St Mary’s Church of England Primary School and Symondsbury Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School as “good”.

The Sir John Colfox Academy is Bridport’s only secondary school. Located on the outskirts of the town. Following its last inspection, it was noted by Ofsted that its “outcomes in the sixth form are very good with results at A level being in the top 10% in the country.” Children can also attend other secondary schools within the region.

Further and higher education in the region is provided by Yeovil College, Weymouth College, Kingston Maurward College and Bournemouth University.
