    Why Move to Christchurch?

Dorset’s 4th biggest town by population Christchurch is steeped in history and full of character and seaside charm.

Sandwiched between the New Forest National Park on one side and the bustling seaside resort of Bournemouth on the other Christchurch has been a popular choice for relocation for many years.

Established in around 650 AD by ministers sent to Wessex by St Birinus, the first Bishop of Dorchester, the town was originally named Twynham but became known as Christchurch following the construction of the priory in 1094.

Christchurch’s extraordinary location lies at the centre of a green belt region, and it is where the waterways of the Stour and Avon rivers converge. The shores of its vast regular harbour make Christchurch a particularly attractive place to live.

Christchurch is within easy reach of award-winning beaches, nature reserves and the New Forest, to name a few. It also offers a great range of facilities such as a weekly market, national chain stores and local outlets, an incredible choice of eateries and drinking establishments and most importantly, well-renowned schools.

Conveniently served by public transport and regular train services means London is 2 hours away, Southampton City is 20 minutes and cosmopolitan Bournemouth is just a short hop of 7 minutes by train and 5 miles by road. Getting around the region could not be easier.

What was once seen as a solely retirement destination, has now become an attractive location for all ages, offering a perfect place in which to start a family combined with a high quality of life.

    Christchurch Schools & Education

Schools in Christchurch fall under the jurisdiction of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole Council.

There is a total of two infant schools, two junior schools, five primary schools (combined infant and junior) and three secondary schools within the town’s boundary.

Most primaries are graded at “good” by Ofsted with Christchurch Infant School having been given the highly sought-after grade of “outstanding”

Secondaries also have good reputations. There are two Ofsted-rated “outstanding” high schools, Twynham School and Tregonwell Academy.

The Stable School and Bournemouth Collegiate School are available if you prefer to send your child to an independent school.

There is a good selection of further education colleges nearby.

Bournemouth & Poole College is one of the closest. A well-established educational provider which delivers further education, higher education, and community-based courses. It is one of the larger British colleges with thousands of learners attending each year.

    Things to do in Christchurch

Because of Christchurch’s unique location, you will find an astonishing range of things to keep you busy in your spare time.

With the captivating World Heritage Jurassic Coast and the beautifully rugged New Forest National Park close by it is an awesome area to get outside and investigate.

Christchurch harbour is a great place to visit. Set midway between the Solent and Poole Harbour and provides access to one of the most popular areas for boating on the south coast. The entrance to the harbour, known as ‘The Run’, is flanked by Mudeford Quay to the north and Mudeford Sandbank to the south.

The town has a choice of six beaches, each of which has its own personality. Some are more suited to families; some are less commercial, and a couple allow dogs throughout the year. A day building sandcastles, playing ball games on the beach, paddling and swimming in the sea, and crabbing is a winning combination.

Watermans Adventure Park and Eight Below Zone have specific play areas for toddlers and young children providing a safe, fun, educational space to let them play.

Enjoy endless walks along the quay, feeding the birds and the great splash park. You can hire a boat for the day and enjoy a bit of fishing or swimming off the coast.

When you tire of water-based pastimes, shopping in Bournemouth is a must. It is a great way to spend the day.

When you fancy a night out, Bournemouth is well known for its hectic nightlife, packed with a huge number of clubs, pubs and restaurants and a favourite for hen and stag nights too.

    Christchurch Property

The town’s property market boasts an eclectic mix of styles, Georgian, Tudor, and Victorian as well as more modern homes.

Location is always important. Living in Christchurch offers some great river or ocean views, and its very commuter-friendly compact town centre lies within easy reach of the train station and local amenities. The downside is that homes are on the expensive side.

According to Zoopla the average price for a home currently stands at £498,828.

You can expect to pay an average of £694,973 for a detached property, £417,918 for a semi-detached, £376,368 for a terraced home and flats sell on average for £267,503.

The most expensive property for sale in Christchurch is a terraced home on the market for £800,000. A three/four-bedroom house, perfectly located in the centre of Christchurch, only a minute’s walk from Christchurch Quay and a 3-minute walk to the town centre.
