    Why Move to Grimsby

    The port of Grimsby is located on the north-east coast of Lincolnshire at the meeting of the Humber Estuary and the North Sea. The town is around 161 miles north of London and 22 miles south-east of Hull.

    Once home to the largest fishing fleet in the world, by the mid-20th century the EU Common Fisheries Policy seriously disrupted fishing rights for the UK and the industry went into decline.

    Today, many fisheries and fishing-related businesses still exist but the town has diversified. There are now various engineering jobs in Grimsby, as jobs in markets related to engineering.

    Although it is not seen as a commuter town, rail links do provide Grimsby with connections to Sheffield and Hull within an hour and a half, with Leeds accessible in a little over that time.

    The town offers a very low cost of living combined with low housing prices. Grimsby has a very pretty centre, with a range of 19th Century architecturally designed houses as well as having a fantastic sandy beach where you can find properties with magnificent views overlooking the North Sea.

    For those moving with young children, Grimsby’s schools fair very favourably and are on a par with most large towns in the region.

    Grimsby Schools & Education

    There are numerous primary and secondary schools in Grimsby, with most of them having good exam results as well as favourable ratings from the Education Watchdog Ofsted.

    Particularly well thought of primaries in the region include Laceby Acres Primary Academy voted as outstanding by Ofsted and the Western Primary School which was awarded a good rating.

    Of the seven closest secondaries in the area, Seven Hills Academy and Oasis Academy were rated as being amongst the best by Ofsted.

    Many pupils from the town also attend secondary education institutions in Cleethorpes, Healing, Humberston and Waltham, and even further afield is Caistor Grammar.

    For private education, independent schools in Grimsby include St James’ School (a mainstream, independently funded junior & senior mixed school) and St Martin’s Preparatory School (a mixed school for children aged 2-11yrs).

    Further education is provided by Franklin College, a sixth form college. The Grimsby Institute also offers further and higher education courses which are mostly vocational.

    Things to do in Grimsby

    There are many attractions in and around the town and it is a good base from which to explore the surrounding area.

    As most top seaside towns have, Grimsby is home to a traditional pier, complete with amusements and fish and chip shops. Recently renovated, the pier also offers a choice of restaurants, bars and entertainment.

    Grimsby has several miles of golden sand and blue-flag waters which attract all sorts of people annually, these are especially busy in the summer months. A great place to spend a day with the family or to indulge in the local water sport scene.

    Community green spaces, such as People’s Park and Weelsby Woods give residents the chance to have a leisurely walk, run or cycle or just appreciate the landscaped park and recreational areas of the woods.
