    Following a swathe of regeneration projects, Sidcup, is on the up and has become a sought-after destination. Nicely placed to the southeast of London, it sits primarily in the Borough of Bexley, 11 miles from Charring Cross. An ancient location, the name is thought to be derived from Cetecopp meaning “seat shaped or flat-topped hill”; The earliest record of the town dates back to 1254.

    Whist Sidcup sits well within a quick drive of the stunning Kent AONB, it has several attractive green areas of its own much closer to home; Foots Cray Meadows, Lamorbey Park, Willersley Park and Old Farm Park are all wonderful ways to spend time outside.

    If you commute into London to work, Mainline Station in Sidcup is located within Zone 5 and there are plenty of regular services to London Bridge (21 mins), Waterloo East (31 mins), as well as many other stations. Getting around by car can be a challenge especially in rush hour, however the main A20 and the A2 offer access to the M25 and locations up and down the country.

    Having such great schools in the area means that families in particular are attracted to Sidcup.     Bird College – Conservatoire for Dance and Musical Theatre is an independent performing arts school and college. Located in Sidcup it provides specialist vocational training in dance and musical theatre, at both further and higher education level.

    The Learning & Enterprise College Bexley has been established for over 50 years. It also offers, a wide choice of courses and adult education as well. The college is Bexley Council’s main provider of adult learning, providing courses, guidance, and support to over 8,000 students on courses across its three sites and venues in the community.

    Things to do in Sidcup

    There is no doubt that the town has become a go-to activity hub for the region, posing a multitude of exciting recreational opportunities such as: One of the nicest green spaces – Foots Cray Meadows. A popular riverside park featuring wooded areas, meadows, and lawns, plus walking paths and footbridges.

    The Davis Lloyd Club provides residents with a host of things to do all under one roof. Tennis, swimming, gym, a program of exercise classes and also spa facilities so you can relax and unwind after your workout. There is even a crèche, so the little ones are also fully occupied.

    Eating out is something everyone enjoys from time to time. Sidcup provides a range of eateries from English food to Italian, Indian to Chinese plus some great pubs and cafes.

    Golf is a big attraction locally. Sidcup Golf Club in Hurst Road in Lamorbey Park is a nine-hole course, a challenging but beautiful parkland course only two miles from the centre of Sidcup.

    One for the children. Crayzee Barn is great when the weather is not. An indoor soft play centre. Let the kids run wild on the play frame packed with slides, ball pools, tunnels and more whilst the adults enjoy a welcome cup of coffee at the little on-site café.

    For something a bit different, Chislehurst Caves (2 miles away) are a series of intersecting man-made tunnels and caverns covering some 22 miles. Originally carved for chalk used to form bricks for the building of London, later as a munition storage area and then as a deep air raid shelter, it is now a popular tourist attraction.
