Things to do in Chesterfield
With an abundance of choice, Chesterfield has a huge number of things to do and visitor attractions all on its doorstep.
Queen’s Park: The very popular public park famous the world over for its cricketing history is the home of Chesterfield Cricket Club and the cricket festival in July features some first-class games.
There is a lake, a miniature railway and other child-friendly activities at Queens Park.
Pomegranate Theatre: A listed Victorian building with an auditorium seating around 500 people. There is a varied program of shows performed at the venue throughout the year.
The Church of St Mary & All Saints: This interesting attraction is also known as ‘The Crooked Spire’. A Grade I Listed building dating back to the 14th Century.
While it was originally believed that the twisted spire looks the way it does due to poor building techniques, it has been discovered more recently that the lead on the roof heats up on the South side more than the North causing it to expand and creating the twisting phenomenon.
West Wood: An ancient and beautiful swathe of unspoiled woodland. Brimming with wildlife and birds it’s a great place for a long leisurely walk suitable for all ages.
There is evidence of history there with the remains of old bell pits along the east edge of the woodland and there are stopping points with benches so you can rest for a while before continuing.
The Chesterfield Canal: Take a walk along the canal towpath or enjoy a boat trip to appreciate the scenic beauty and tranquillity of this historic waterway.
Shopping: Chesterfield offers a range of shops, boutiques, and markets located in the town’s central square. Plus, the charming cobblestone streets provide some really nice boutique stores in the Shambles and Yards areas.
There are some great food and drink venues to stop at when you are done with the shopping.
