    Why Move to Hillingdon

Hillingdon is an area of Uxbridge, one of outer London’s commercial hubs. The London Borough of Hillingdon is the second largest in London covering an area of almost 45 square miles. The name Hillingdon appears in the Domesday Book (1086) as Hillendone, possibly meaning “hill of a man named Hille”.

Hillingdon has developed into a highly desirable area due to its accessible road networks and excellent schools. Basically, the area is divided into two – South and North and both have a different feel. While the south of the borough offers its residents a more populated, trendier funky kind of vibe, North Hillingdon is where you will find a more laid-back suburban feel, popular with wealthier residents and ideal for families.

The borough sits around 14 miles from central London on the Piccadilly line making it an easy commute. Many locals work at Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest in the world, or at Brunel University and Hillingdon Hospital.

Several very large corporations are based in Hillingdon including GlaxoSmithKline, IBM, Mitsubishi, and Marks & Spencer. Needless to say, the area experiences a low unemployment rate and a healthy economy.

Whilst rail and bus services are exemplary, if you ever have the need to leave the area by road, the nearby A40 connects to the M25, M4 and M40 ensuring a quick exit route to many locations in the region.

There’s plenty to keep everyone occupied no matter what the weather decides to do.
Hillingdon is where urban and country meet boasting 800 acres of woodland, country parks, fields and farms, several rivers, and the Grand Union Canal.

The borough’s multitude of green spaces offers residents a place to exercise or play for all ages, from skate parks to bowls greens and Ruislip Lido boasts one of London’s few beaches. In short, Hillingdon really does have it all.

    Schools & Education

Good schools in the area are one of Hillingdon’s most prominent attractions.

Parents have a number of excellent state schools to choose from and many have been highly rated by Ofsted.

Most are “good” says Ofsted with several achieving the Government Watchdogs most highly prized rating of “outstanding”.

If your child requires special education, Hillingdon Moorcroft School in Colham Green is run by the Eden Academy Trust.

Eden is a secondary school for students between 11 and 19 years old with severe learning disabilities (SLD), profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and autistic spectrum disorders (ASD).

St Helens College, ACS Hillingdon International School, Hillingdon Manor School, and Pield Heath House RC School all provide private education for both local children and those from across the borough.

Uxbridge College is a large general further education college located within the borough. The college recently merged with Harrow College, although it retains its individual identity. It has two campuses, one in Uxbridge and the other in Hayes.
