    Why Move to Kettering?

The characterful and traditional market town of Kettering is mainly situated on the west side of the River Ise, a tributary of the River Nene.

Falling within the county of Northamptonshire, the town is in a largely rural region packed full of charming villages and open green spaces.

During the 10th Century Kettering was called Cytringan, Kyteringas and Keteiringan. Its translation means “the place (or territory) of Ketter’s people (or kinsfolk)”.

Nowadays Kettering has become a busy major county hub due to its close proximity to the A14 providing access to major roads such as the M1, M6, and the A1. Whilst its almost 60,000 residents enjoy a high standard of living.

The town also provides a direct rail service into London St Pancras station (55 minutes). Plus, it has the advantage of having five large UK airports all within a two hours’ drive.

It is this very connectivity which makes it so attractive. Many have moved into the area taking advantage of the affordable property prices, whilst utilising the excellent transport links to more expensive cities it provides.

The town centre is well serviced by major retail chains and the pedestrianized town centre has recently been redeveloped to offer a popular and attractive cultural area.

Kettering Borough is a fast-growing area, and its local council is busy with plans to further develop the town and build ever more homes to cater for the influx of new residents eager to reside in this attractive, well-appointed town.

    Kettering Schools & Education

Schooling is of a good standard in Kettering with most primary schools now being scored by Ofsted as ‘well above national average’ or ‘ exceptional’.

Of the numerous primary schools, St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School, St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, St Mary’s Church of England Voluntary Aided and Grange Primary Academy have all been inspected and found to be “good” says Ofsted.

The four secondary schools located in the town are Bishop Stopford School, Kettering Science Academy, Kettering Buccleuch Academy and Southfield School for Girls.

Both the Kettering Science Academy and Kettering Buccleuch Academy have become academies in recent years and both academies are joined to separate primary schools to allow for an easier transition from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3.

The Bishop Stopford School was rated as “outstanding” following its last Ofsted inspection.

Tresham College of Further and Higher Education is a popular choice with older children who have completed secondary education. Ofsted graded the college as “good” across all areas inspected.

Kettering is situated near the well-established University of Northampton. The university offers a good mix of both full and part time courses and in 2017, was awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
