Moving to Lyndhurst?

Village overview

If you were thinking of moving to Hampshire, the village of Lyndhurst would be an ideal choice. It’s the largest village in the New Forrest and was considered the ‘capital’ of the area when William the Conqueror had his hunting grounds here.

It’s been the haunt of royalty and the nobility for centuries. Many Kings and Queens have visited Lyndhurst’s manor house now called Queens House in Lyndhurst High Street.

Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland was based on Alice Liddell (later Hargreaves) who lived in Lyndhurst and is buried in the graveyard of St Michael and All Angels church. It’s a magnificent gothic church with a 49-metre spire and is well worth a visit.
Schools

St. Michael and All Angels CofE infant School is considered to be a very good rural primary. The New Forrest Small School is an excellent rural pre-school.
Connections

It’s very well connected, Brockenhurst is the main station with trains to London Waterloo taking one and a half hours you can get to Southampton airport in 22 minutes. The M27 and A31 are all close although they do get packed in the summer months.
