Why Move to Sleaford
The quaint picturesque market town of Sleaford sits within the county of Lincolnshire.
This town manages to combine the traditional with the modern. Popular with families thanks to a friendly community, low crime rates and good schools, it has become a very much sought-after location to live. With a population of over 17,500, Sleaford is the largest settlement in the North Kesteven district.
The incredible 144-foot stone spire of St. Denys’ church is the beating heart of the town whilst the romantic and luscious fenland which surrounds it gives it a wonderfully rural charm. Once a predominantly agricultural town, with the arrival of the railways came heavy industrialisation which changed Sleaford’s fortune.
Today, the regeneration of the town centre has helped to reignite the earlier industrial areas. The construction of the National Centre for Craft & Design, once the site of an old wharf, is popular with visitors, and has had a very positive knock-on effect for the local economy. The River Slea which flows through the town provides some pretty walks.
The Sleaford Canal stretches over 13 miles and offers residents the opportunity to enjoy boating, canoeing, kayaking and many other water-based activities.
It is a well-connected town, with its own train station making commuting to larger towns and cities in the region such as Grantham, Boston, and Lincoln incredibly easy.
The extensive bus network and fast access to the A17 and A15 further enhance the town’s great connectivity.
There’s a whole lot to do here in your spare time. Obviously, the beautiful fens will fulfil even the most ardent outdoorsy types. An added bonus is that the town is well within easy reach of the seaside resort of Skegness too. Sleaford is an ideal base for exploring the highlights of the UK’s eastern coastline.
Sleaford covers all aspects required to provide a safe, fulfilling, and interesting lifestyle within a community-led environment. Perfect for first-time buyers right up to retirees and everything in between.
Schools & Education
Education standards are of the highest standard attracting many people to the school catchment area.
There is a choice of four primary schools and three secondaries which are complemented by one private school, Holton Sleaford Independent School.
Church Lane Primary School & Nursery has been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted.
Following its 2014 inspection, Ofsted noted that “Behaviour is exemplary in lessons and around school because pupils are courteous and respectful to each other and to adults” and that “The teaching is outstanding in the large majority of classes and is consistently good in all others”.
All secondaries have been deemed “good” by Ofsted with three of the schools providing education via their sixth form provision for students 16-18 years old.
Carrie’s Grammar School for boys is a popular choice. Ofsted recognised the school as “good” in March 2017 stating that “the school continues to be in excellent shape and well-placed to secure further improvement in the coming years, with an excellent capacity for this within the leadership of the school, at all levels”.
Whilst there are a number of good FE colleges in the county, Grantham College is deemed one of the best, boasting some of the most impressive facilities around, including the purpose-built three-storey Arts Centre with design studios, workrooms, and dedicated Performing Arts Studio.
Rated as the ‘Modern University of the Year’ in the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, the university has something to offer everyone with an impressive range of facilities.
