    Why Move to Verwood

Verwood is a vibrant little town but has a close-knit feel more in tune with a village. It is hard to believe that it was once the home of several notorious smugglers who bought their illegal contraband ashore along the rugged Dorset coast for distribution across the county.

Nowadays, Verwood attracts a different type of resident! It has all the attributes needed for an easy lifestyle, local attractions, great travel links, an assortment of shops and restaurants, and most importantly good schools.

Cosmopolitan Bournemouth and affluent Poole are both within a few miles of Verwood, so if you fancy a little bit of culture or a boisterous evening out, you don’t have far to trek.

Verwood is unsurpassable when it comes to green spaces. The town sits right in the middle of it all. Ringwood Forest, the wonderful New Forest National Park, Cranbourne Chase AONB, Holt Heath National Nature Reserve, and Moors Valley County Park & Forest are all just a hop away.

On the flip side, away from the country, Verwood’s proximity to the South coast of the UK means a trip to the seaside is just 12 miles away. Bournemouth, Southbourne, Poole, Mudeford, and Boscombe beaches are all idyllic seaside locations.

Superb local transport links by road are via the A31 trunk road, providing easy access to the M3 leading to London with the cities of Salisbury and Southampton within approximately 30 minutes’ drive.

Verwood is a delightfully modern town but with the old-fashioned values, you don’t find in bigger locations. Great amenities and its idyllic location make it a perfect place for enjoying all that Dorset has to offer.

Dorset Council oversees education across the county including Verwood. Their website is a good place to start your search for a suitable school for your child if you are new to the area.

There is no secondary school in Verwood, older children travel by bus to nearby Queen Elizabeth’s School, Wimborne Minster or Ferndown Upper School.

Dorset has around 40 colleges offering education for young adults aged between 16-18 years and most offer adult courses too.

The Burgate School and Sixth Form is an 11–18 academy school. The school is situated in Fordingbridge, 7 miles from Verwood, rated “good” by Ofsted at the current time it has approximately 1000 students.
