For a great day out, visit Brodie Castle, a 16th Century Tower House. It is open in the summer season and located close to Forres. The castle was built in 1567 by the ancient seat of Clan Brodie and stayed in the family right up until 1980 when the National Trust took over ownership.
It has been renovated over recent years and has been transformed into a Scots Baronial-style mansion. The renovations have been carefully carried out to ensure that the building retains its original character.
There are lots of things to see here, the passageways and towers are treasure troves of priceless antiques and unusual artifacts. The vaulted guard house and arched entrance to the library is stunning. The gardens and grounds are beautifully maintained and a sight to see in the summer when the flowers are in bloom.
A tearoom is located on the ground floor of the 1800s wing with the Victorian kitchen just beyond it. A shop is located at the back of the castle and to the rear of the courtyard lies an octagonal dairy.
An outside seating area provides a good spot for keeping an eye on the children whilst enjoying a cup of tea. Plenty to do for the whole family.
