Why move to Jersey?
You can go running along the beach in your lunch break, you can’t do that in London. It’s a short hop from Gatwick airport to Jersey; it has a compact but busy airport. There are 45.5 square miles of prime real estate just off the coast of Normandy and you could be forgiven for thinking it’s just a huge country club! Jersey property prices have remained strong during the global economic crisis and it offers long-term investment potential. It’s ranked right up there, along with the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas.
Connections with the mainland
Fast ferry services leave from the south coast of England; sailing from Poole or Weymouth and the journey time is about 4 hours. Flights leave from London City, Southend, Stansted and Gatwick and the journey time is less than an hour. Once on the island, nowhere is particularly far and you can also get around the island by boat.
Jersey has the perfect café culture, with plenty of continental-style places to eat with delightful French influences. For shopping head to St Helier, which offers village style charm with city style boutiques and all the usual high street names. The local well heeled tend to fly back to London for a day of serious shopping. For a nice supper out, Douro Restaurant is always a good choice. It’s situated in Halkett Place in St Helier and serves a mean Tournedos Rossini with Chef Tony’s special sauce. The wine list is pretty good too.
Expensive, very expensive and even more expensive! Average property prices are £878,000. Semi-detached properties can start as low as £220,000 but they can get a lot more expensive too. Generally the north of the island has the more grand country home and anywhere on the fringes of St Helier is considered a good location.
