About Stellenbosch and Removals Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is a beautiful town located in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Commonly known as the City of Oaks. It has a population of around 140,000. It is situated about 31 miles east of Cape Town and it lies on the banks of the Eerste River overlooked by rolling mountains. The surrounding vineyards are home to award winning wines, wineries and cellars. The Stellenbosch Wine Route is the most popular and most visited wine route in the country.

The town itself is old, it is the second oldest European settlement in the province, after Cape Town. The beautifully historic buildings in the town centre are built mostly in the Dutch Cape style. Due to the excellent Stellenbosch University, a large part of the town’s identity can be attributed to the presence of more than 19,000 resident students. This makes for a vibrant environment, alive with different cultures and activities.

Cafes, bars and restaurants line the down town streets and eating al fresco gives it a really European feel. Shopping is a great pastime in Stellenbosch. There are plenty of curio shops offering a range of ethnic gifts, antique shops, good clothing shops, art galleries, pottery and jewelry shops.

Education and Removals Stellenbosch

One of the most important decisions for those who are relocating abroad with children is making sure they get a good education. Each country has its own rules and regulations. South Africa has three kinds of schools: public fee-free schools, public private schools, and private schools. The quality of the education offered in these schools varies widely.

Education is compulsory for children aged seven and older, independent of their race and their religious background. They have to attend school until they either turn 15 or complete their 9th school year. In South Africa, parents can decide if they want their children to attend preschool. Primary education is compulsory, secondary education is optional.

As with all counties, cities and towns, there are some excellent schools and some which are not so good. You will need to do your research to find out which schools you feel will suit your children best. Expat web sites are a great way to share information about schools in your chosen area:
