Why Move to Burnham on Sea?

Coastal living has never been so good. Not only does Burnham on Sea offer a fantastic quality of life with regards to location, but its excellent travel links also coupled with an abundance of outdoor green spaces make it a practical locale in every way.

Sitting amid the wonderful county of Somerset, a “county of variety”, Burnham was a small fishing village until the late 18th Century when it began to grow because of its popularity as a holiday resort.

Burnham-on-Sea’s many sandy beaches, 7 miles of them, have been a favourite for years and years but particularly with families. Who doesn’t enjoy a day at the seaside? Back from the coast, Burnham also supplies a swathe of award-winning green areas.

Nearby is the amazing Cheddar Gorge with its soaring cliffs, famous caves and the quiet beauty of the Quantock, Mendip and Polden Hills. The Somerset Levels and Moors are yet other beautiful landscapes close at hand. Not only has Burnham all the attributes necessary entertainment-wise, but it also has great amenities as well.

If you are not working from home, as many do who live here already, connections to larger towns such as Bath, Bristol, Bridgwater, Taunton, and Exeter are all well within reach by road or rail.

Shopping in the town more than covers everyday needs with a busy high street lined with a nice mix of independents and well-known retailers such as Tesco, Lidl, Boots, and others.

In recent years, like so many Somerset coastal destinations, Burnham-on-Sea has caught the eye of prospective buyers. This buzzing little town certainly manages to satisfy one’s need for a peaceful home life, vibrant social life, and compelling cultural life, all within gorgeously natural and historic surroundings.

Burnham on Sea Schools & Education

The town may be small, but it has some very good schools within its catchment area and older students do not have to travel too far from home either.

Burnham-On-Sea Community Infant School and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary & Nursery School are both “outstanding” says Ofsted.

The nearest secondary school is The King Alfred School. A coeducational comprehensive school in Highbridge, just south of the town centre.

The school is a specialist Sports College. The facilities of the dual-use King Alfred Sports Centre, which is next to the school site, are shared between the school and the town.

Bridgwater & Taunton College (10 miles) and Weston College (11 miles) are the closest further education colleges in the area, though there are more available further away.

Both colleges perform well and offer a good assortment of courses as well as some degree courses as well.

The closest university sites are the University of Bath, Bath Spa University and University Centre Weston.

All are higher education establishments and again, offer plenty of choices when it comes to courses and qualifications.
