Why Move to Bury?
In 2015, Bury was named among the best towns for families to live in the UK, declaring it as Greater Manchester’s happiest place!
Historically part of Lancashire, now the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester, Bury emerged in the Industrial Revolution as a mill town manufacturing textiles. Between 1801 and 1830, the town’s population more than doubled from 7,072 to 15,086. This was the time when the factories, mines and foundries, with their spinning machines and steam engines, began to dominate the landscape.
Sitting nicely on the banks of the River Irwell, the town continues to grow and prosper to this day, and Bury’s ‘World Famous’ Market draws people in from the all over the country. Its quirky streets and location give residents all the perks of city living while being on the border of open countryside.
Strategically placed on the motorway network within a short hop to Manchester City, Leeds, Bolton and Rochdale as well as having the Metro link into Manchester city centre always proves a huge draw to the town.
Bury has a diverse selection of popular high street shops as well as smaller independent retailers. The Rock is an excellent destination with M&S, Debenhams, Next, Primark, Bank, H&M to name just a few of the brands you would expect to see in such a thriving town.
Bury boasts excellent schools and highly rated childcare which, along with relatively low house prices and crime levels, makes the borough a superb choice for families.
