Choosing a Removals Company

There are many things to consider when choosing a removals company. Obviously price is one of the most important considerations, but there are also a number of other things that you will need to think about.

Firstly, it’s always worth hiring a professional removals company to arrange your move. Although packing up and moving your stuff may not sound difficult, there is an art to packing, to make sure that your things are properly protected and do not get broken in transit.

It is always advisable to use a removals company that is a member of the British Association of Removers (BAR), as this will mean they have the necessary training, expertise, insurance and experience to carry out your move without and delays or problems.

It is recommended that you get at least three quotes before arranging your move, preferably from removers that will visit your property rather than just estimating the cost over the phone. That way you will be sure the costs quoted will be accurate, as it is important that all factors are taken into consideration such as difficult access, steeps stairs and large or fragile items that will require special packing.

Always check that the company you use has adequate insurance cover and also if there is a time limit in which you can make a claim after your move.

To save on costs you may choose to do some of the packing yourself. However, it is usually best to get your removal company to pack the breakables. Also bare in mind that the removal company’s insurance will not cover items you have packed yourself.

If you have any valuable items, check whether they will need any special packing and also check to see if they will be covered by insurance, as there may be a set limit per item and you may want to take out special insurance for these things.
