The pretty town of Evesham sits in the county of Worcestershire, it is a small town with a big heart. Advantageously sited on the edge of the Cotswolds, a well-known attractive tourist area and well placed for travel links to other towns in the region such as Worcester, Cheltenham and Stratford Upon Avon.
Evesham has an interesting history. In 1265 it was the site of the battle of Evesham, in which Simon de Montfort was defeated. It was also the home of one of Europe’s largest medieval abbeys. The winding River Avon flows through the Vale of Evesham and its fertile banks meant the town was and still is to a degree known for fruit growing and market gardening.

A mixed selection of shops, a local hospital, good schools, and plenty of cultural activities including its own Arts Centre. A variety of clubs and associations provide residents with a sense of community and the towns rugby, running and rowing clubs are all extremely popular. Further evidence of the towns close knit community is via its various annual festivals such as the Fishing Festival, Balloon Festival and The Asparagus festival, for which The Vale of Evesham is world famous.
Road, rail, and air connections are all easily accessible. The A46 and A44 trunk roads offer access to the M5, M40 and M42. Whilst London Paddington train station can be reached in just under two hours. Birmingham International Airport is located 40 minutes away.
Evesham’s pretty surroundings coupled with its friendly community atmosphere and handy connections mean that those who choose to live here very rarely leave.
Evesham Schools & Education
Evesham is served by eight primary schools six of which have been rated as “good” and two requiring improvements.
Within two miles of the town there are five secondaries, of these only Prince Henry’s High School has been awarded the highest honour of “outstanding” by Ofsted.
Older students can attend Evesham College. The college is part of WCG, a group of colleges that, combined, make up one of the largest further and higher education colleges in the UK.
EC delivers a broad range of study programmes including many vocational subjects. It is equipped with a motor vehicle workshop, Hair & beauty training salons and a fully equipped IT facility and media suite.
Things to do in Evesham
With its handy travel links, getting around the county and beyond requires little effort.
This means that there is a huge variety of things to do and see if you live in Evesham.
Plus, if you are looking for a city fix, Birmingham, Worcester, and the affluent town of Cheltenham are all well within reach.
Residents have access to a great number of local facilities including the Evesham Leisure Centre, Arts Centre, Droitwich Spa Lido, Evesham Vale Light Railway and the Almonry Museum and Heritage Centre to name a few.
The meandering River Avon makes for a picture-perfect backdrop to picnics and can be crossed on an old-fashioned cable ferry.
Open spaces abound and a firm favourite is Abbey Park. There are various things to do here with young children such as rides, games, and boat trips. Plus, there is an onsite café.
The world-renowned Cotswolds is an amazingly beautiful area to visit. Lots of picturesque villages surrounded by some of Worcestershire’s most scenic countryside.
Birdwatching, Walking, cycling or just flying a kite are all great fun activities to do to get the most out of the area.
The town boasts a wealth of historic buildings including a fine 15th-century timbered merchants house called the ‘Round House. Tucked away in the area of the town called Bengeworth is an old manor house once owned by King Canute.
Evesham Abbey was founded between 700 and 710AD on the spot where the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared to a humble swineherd call Eoves. In its heyday the Abbey was one of the wealthiest in the country. Today it still stands proud and is an interesting place to visit.

Evesham Property
Evesham’s property values are somewhat more affordable than other towns in the region with a current average value £307,510.
Compare this to Cheltenham’s average of £396,453 and Stratford upon Avon at £414,238 and it is easy to see why the town is a popular choice with buyers.
Several areas of the town are seen as particularly sought after. The centre is where you will find a selection of refined period homes.
More affordable properties are located in roads such as Port Street where you are looking at paying between £105,000 for a one-bedroom flat and around £160 for a two-bed flat.
Larger more exclusive areas are on the border of the town in places such as Greenhill and Abbottswood, for a home here you can expect to pay from £500,000 upward.
The rental market is not a particularly busy one and currently there are just 6 homes for rent in the town.
