Many of us have dreamed of one day living by the sea. Felixstowe is one of those places where this could become a reality. A charming Edwardian seaside town and civil parish, Felixstowe sits between the River Orwell and River Deben on the North Sea coast of Suffolk, the only place in East Anglia which faces directly south.
Crucial to the region’s economy, the port processes 48% of Britain’s containerised trade and employs hundreds locally. Not only is it a great place to live and work, but Felixstowe also draws tourist visitors from all over the UK. A well-loved, traditional seaside resort known for its Blue Flag quality sand and shingle beach, long promenade, perfectly kept seafront gardens and variety of other seaside attractions. The town enjoys quality transport connections. It is situated close to the A14 with good road access to other routes and located about 12 miles from the county town of Ipswich.
The local railway station sits at the eastern terminus of the Felixstowe Branch Line. The only surviving station serving the town, it offers services direct to Ipswich and other smaller towns along the route. Whilst London can be reached in two hours. Felixstowe Schools & Education
Schools in the town are managed by Suffolk County Council.
Suffolk has a comprehensive state education system which runs alongside fourteen independent schools.
There is various preschool, primary and secondaries covering the Felixstowe region.
Fairfield Infant School, Colneis Junior and Kingsfleet are among several schools for younger children who made it onto Ofsted’s “good” rated schools list.
Unfortunately, the local secondary Felixstowe School is currently underperforming.
The Harwick & Dovecourt High School fairs better. The Ofsted team recognised the progress the school has made since the last inspection, and they acknowledge that staff are all determined to raise standards.
Suffolk New College is one of several FE Colleges serving Felixstowe. Located in nearby Ipswich, it provides courses for students from across south Suffolk. Courses such as vocational programmes, GCSEs and apprenticeships are available as well as some higher education and leisure learning courses.
Things to do in Felixstowe
The resort became a fashionable seaside retreat in the 1880’s and since then has retained many of its attractions.
‘Old Felixstowe’ has many of its own delights to explore, including Café Bencotto which is housed in an old fire station close to the town centre.
The seafront has everything you’d expect from a traditional seaside holiday resort, with old-fashioned beach huts, fish and chip shops, a funfair, amusement arcades, miniature golf, bowling green, cafés, and restaurants.
There is also the Forum Amusement Centre, Ocean Boulevard and Manning’s Amusements. A few hours at one of these venues is great fun on a rainy day. From 2p pushers full of prizes, to Skeeball, Air hockey, basketball and much more.
Felixstowe Museum showcases the towns heritage beautifully with a diverse range of ancient, military, natural and medical artifacts on display. Even the building is of historical interest as it was once a submarine mining establishment.
Landguard Nature Reserve covers approximately 33 hectares (81 acres). A shingle spit sitting at the southern tip of Suffolk’s stunning coastline. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because of its high wildlife conservation value, such as its rare, vegetated shingle habitat and botanical species.

Felixstowe Property
A busy housing market awaits those looking to move to Felixstowe.
Consisting of 138 properties, the towns property portfolio is incredibly varied and still fairly affordable with the average home costing on average £288,632.
