Lincoln is a vibrant, historic, university city. It is very well placed for easy access to the major road networks of the A46, A15 and the A1, making it a prime commuter location.
Part of the East Midlands, Lincoln sits on the East coast of England, to the north of Norfolk and the south of Yorkshire, nestled between the Humber and the Wash.
The city is popular with people of all ages, it has something for everyone. Its two universities of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste University means that there is a large student population. This is evident in the many busy bars, clubs and restaurants at its centre.
In contrast, it has plenty of historical places of interest and its stunning cathedral is visited by thousands annually.
For those seeking work, Lincoln features a number of industry employers. Lincoln’s economy is based mainly on public administration, commerce, arable farming and tourism. The city is also home to the large German company Siemens.
Due to the active presence of a railway, many companies, such as Virgin Trains East Coast and MCK Recruitment are often on the lookout for suitable railway job candidates.

Lincoln Schools & Education
One of the cities attractions to newcomers is the quality of its education.
In all there are almost 200 schools serving the city from nursery through to university, making finding a good school for your children no problem in Lincoln.
Some good primaries include Westgate Academy and Coleby Church of England (Controlled) Primary School. Outstanding’s include Digby the Tedder Primary School and Hartsholme Primary School.
Notable secondaries are William Farr School and Branston Community Academy both graded as “outstanding” by Ofsted.
Further education courses are provided by Lincoln College, which is the largest education institution in Lincolnshire, it is home to 18,500 students, of whom 2,300 are full-time. There is also a specialist creative college, Access Creative, which offers courses in music, media and games design.
Bishop Grosseteste University focuses on the arts and drama. The larger Lincoln University has several campuses in the city and in 2016. In 2019 the university was ranked as 22 in The Guardian University Guide, marking the first time it has placed within the top 30.
Things to do in Lincoln
Lincoln has long been associated with aviation. It was one of the largest aircraft production areas in the world; producing over 3,500 aircraft and 3,000 aero engines. The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is a memorial to WW2 and has been kept exactly as it was back then.
It is a great day out for all ages. Today the city is home to the Red Arrows aerobatic display team, often practicing over Lincoln’s skies. So keep an eye on the sky!
Visit Lincoln Castle. Here there are two iconic and rare documents, dating to the early 13th century, on display in a subterranean vault inside. It is the only place in the world where you can see original copies of the Magna Carta (1215) and the Charter of the Forest (1217) in one place.
For a further dose of history, visit some of the region’s stately homes, historic halls, and landscaped gardens. Doddington Hall is a beautiful, Elizabethan home along with stunning gardens.
Whilst Petwood Gardens and the Medieval Bishop’s Palace’s south-facing vineyard are all lovely places to wander and enjoy for a while.
Lincoln caters for families too; the city and surrounding countryside is packed full of great family days outs.
