The market town sits in a convenient spot, 2 miles from the Welsh and Cheshire borders, 20 miles from the county town of Shrewsbury, and the cathedral town of Chester, and 15 miles east of Wrexham.

Getting around the area is made all the simpler as major trunk roads offer access to the Midlands, the Northwest, Cheshire, Liverpool, and Manchester. Rail Links include services to Crewe (providing onward connections to London, around 1 hour 45 mins), Shrewsbury 26 mins, Manchester 57 mins, and Birmingham 1 hour 30 mins.

National airports are available in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and East Midlands. Local services in Whitchurch are good.

Several pubs and restaurants as well as a wide range of interesting events held throughout the year supported by residents and visitors make Whitchurch pleasantly community minded. Shopping bags at the ready as Whitchurch has a flourishing high street. There are all sorts of independents and plenty of stores to choose from when it comes to the weekly big shop. There is a Tesco Superstore, a Sainsbury’s, Iceland, and a good-sized Lidl.

The weekly Friday market provides a huge selection of produce, books, flowers, and jewellery. It is the hub and the heart of the town, a place where everyone comes together to chat and socialise. Add to this several well-regarded schools both state and private and Whitchurch becomes a winner across the board.

    Schools & Education

Whitchurch has a long history of education. Whitchurch Grammar School was established in 1548 by Rev Sir John Talbot, the Rector of Whitchurch in the 1540s.

The school opened in 1550 making it one of the oldest schools in England. The school has changed much over the years. Although still maintaining the original name of Sir John Talbots, it is now a mixed secondary school.

Performing well, its most recent inspection report in June 2014 resulted in a judgment of “good” in all four aspects of the inspection.

Later in September 2014, the school reopened as an academy as part of The Marches Academy Trust with a new headteacher Mr. David John O’Toole.

There are several well-regarded primaries to choose from notably the Tushingham With Grindley CofE Primary School, which received the highest award of “outstanding” from Ofsted.

Two private schools sit within four miles of the town. The White House School for 3-11 years and Acorn Wood for 5-13 years.

Post-16 school leavers have a choice of colleges across the region. Shrewsbury College (20 miles) is the main provider of vocational education in the county and has a range of full-time and part-time courses available across multiple subject areas.

For prospective buyers, Whitchurch has not got a huge property portfolio, however, what is available is very reasonably priced.
