Why Move to Coventry?
A historic cathedral parish, Coventry remains the 9th largest city in England but has taken its fair share of knockbacks, from the intensive Luftwaffe bombing during World War Two, to the decline of the prosperous automobile trade in the 1980s. Fear not however, for the sun does appear to be on the horizon yet again for this modest but intriguing Warwickshire city.
In recent years the local economy has flourished in the areas of research and development, benefiting from its excellent links to world class research intensive universities such as Warwick.
The stalwarts of the post-war manufacturing boom remain with the headquarters of Jaguar being located here as well as the site where London’s iconic black cabs are made. More recently in 2017 Coventry was awarded the title of UK City of Culture 2021, which will unlock a host of further opportunities for the city’s already burgeoning creative and leisure industries, as well as improving employment prospects for young people.
In 2015 the city was ranked one of the best places to live in the UK thanks to its vibrant atmosphere, affordable housing and opportunities in the workplace.
There have been some large-scale infrastructure upgrades to the city in recent years which has given the city’s grey image an uplift, with further developments and initiatives in the pipeline. To meet the city’s demand for new office space, a 37-acre development, Friargate, will be erected and is expected to create up to 15,000 jobs. The city is also very well connected and is within commutable distance of the other large Midlands cities of Birmingham, Warwick and Leicester, and is just over an hour by train to London.
Working in Coventry
Historically, Coventry was the major manufacturer of bicycles in the UK, before moving onto Automobiles. The trade suffered in the 1980s but has shown signs of recovery still remains the site of Jaguar Land Rover, which has its headquarters just two miles from the city centre in Whitley. In fact, Coventry and Warwickshire account for 10% of all automotive jobs in the country. Other major sectors are electronic equipment, machine tools, agricultural machinery, aerospace components and telecommunications equipment.
With Coventry being conveniently placed so closely to Birmingham and Warwick it is a viable commuter option for those looking for further employment opportunities further afield. The cities huge regeneration program is set to create nearly 8000 new jobs in the construction, infrastructure and educational sectors. There will also be an increase in the tourism sector too, as new sporting venues and attractions are built.

Schools & Education
Coventry has 89 primary schools and 28 secondary schools and has become a hub for educational excellence. The city holds two reputable universities, The University of Coventry and The University of Warwick, and in 2016 the city was named as one of the best student cities in the world.
Many of the secondary schools in and around Coventry are specialist colleges, such as Finham Park School. The school is a teacher training establishment, and the only school in Coventry to offer studying the International Baccalaureate. Coventry Blue Coat School specialises in music, again one of only a few in the UK to do so. Bishop Ullathorne RC School specialises in humanities.

House prices in Coventry have seen dip in value by 2.67% over the past year with the average asking price currently £207,491 and the price actually paid £199,735. The highest value streets are Runnymede Road, Graham Park Road and Elmfield Park where properties are selling for well over the £1 million-pound mark.
Coventry has suffered from a lack in affordable housing in recent years. As such the Council has unveiled plans to build around 25,000 new homes within the city’s boundary and a further 18,000 in Warwickshire. About 17,000 of those built within the city will be on existing brownfield sites, with the rest earmarked for green belt land, mostly in the Keresley and Eastern Green areas.
