Comprising of the villages of Old Cwmbran, Pontnewydd, Upper Cwmbran, Henllys, Croesyceiliog, Llantarnam and Llanyrafon, its population has grown to around 50,000. This makes it the sixth largest urban area in Wales.

Aside from benefitting from easy access to the outdoors, the town has a more than adequate retail quarter offering plenty of supermarkets and clothing stores which are in a compact area within the town centre. The large Cwmbran Centre has a great selection of mainstream stores such as Primark. Matalan, TK Maxx and is home to the popular House of Fraser all alongside plenty of places to eat and socialise.
