Recorded in the Domesday book of 1086, the town of Gillingham in Kent, has an interesting and varied past. The town is believed to have been named after a local warlord called Gyllingas from the old English gyllan, meaning “to shout”. He rallied his troops into battle with blood-curdling cries.
Gillingham’s Royal Dockyard was once a centre for shipbuilding, one of which was Nelson’s vessel HMS Victory, built at the dockyard in the 1760s. At Planet Ice, you are all set for a fun time. No need to be a professional, it is a great venue to spend a few hours getting the hang of ice skating. The Royal Engineers Museum is Kent’s only Designated collection. The collection is very large and contains many internationally significant objects.
