    Why Move to New Milton?

New Milton sits in the southwest of Hampshire and is home to a population of around 26,000. Dating back to Anglo-Saxon times, it encompasses the very pretty areas of Old Milton, Barton on Sea, Ashley, Bashley, and Wootton. New Milton has traditionally been seen as a retirement location because of its peaceful, slow, laid-back reputation and abundance of bungalows. However, this little market town has been caught up in a mini housing boom in more recent times, due to its very popular close neighbour Lymington.

As people have been priced out of Lymington, and property is in short supply, they have turned their attention to other towns nearby, and New Milton is one of them. This is all good news for New Milton. Families have seen the benefits of being in a safe location with good schools and super quick access to the beautiful south coast and the greenery of the New Forest National Park.

Local amenities are more than adequate with a great selection of shops. Residents don’t even need to leave the town for general shopping as there is a large Tesco Superstore and a Morrisons in the centre of town. New Milton might be small by some standards, but it still has its own railway station. In less than two hours the train can whisk you direct into Waterloo. Fine if you only need to be in the office once or twice per week.

If you want to be in the thick of a busy city now and then but not travel to London, Southampton and Bournemouth can be reached in no time.

It is difficult to be bored here when there are so many attractions at your fingertips. If you fancy a night out there are a myriad of restaurants and local pubs both within the town centre and around its outskirts. A lively country town full of great charm set among tranquil lanes on the edge of the New Forest, what else is there to say?

    New Milton Schools & Education

Undoubtedly one of the most important criteria when you are re-locating with a family is that you want to find a great school for your child. New Milton does extremely well in the education stakes.

Home to four schools for children aged between 4-11 years, three of these schools have managed a “good” rating from Ofsted. The fourth, New Milton Infant School, managed to bag the top award of “outstanding”.

Local children filter into the one secondary mainstream state school The Arnewood School which Ofsted graded as “good”.

For private education, Ballar School sits in the middle of town. A mixed gender school teaching around 500 pupils aged between 2-16 years.

Post 16 choices vary but, the closest two are Brockenhurst College which is just 6 minutes by train and Totton College around 35 minutes by road.

Both these colleges have a great selection of courses whether you prefer a more academic or a more hands-on approach to studying.
