    Why Move to North Walsham?

With a population of around 15,000, North Walsham is a market town and civil parish in the county of Norfolk. Steeped in history North Walsham dates to Anglo-Saxon times. Historically Flemish weavers came and settled here in the 13th and 14th centuries, helping it become the heart of the wool and weaving industry.

North Walsham High Street has plenty of individual and some well-known shops, selling various products side by side. The marketplace houses a 16th century cross with a clock, the focal point of the town, built to collect rent from the market traders. Today, a market still runs here every Thursday (though payment of rent is no longer necessary!)

Radiating away from the main shopping area are some pretty side streets and alleyways lined with interesting shops, pubs, and cafes. The ideal place to spend time wandering.

Residents are also kept busy as the town has several well-equipped parks, sports facilities, a busy community centre, cinema, several churches, and venues ideal for community groups, etc.

The town provides the added advantage of being near both the Norfolk Coast and Norfolk Broads, making North Walsham a perfect base to explore the rest of the county. Locally the area is easily commutable to Norwich (28 minutes by train) and Cromer (17 minutes).

The B1150 from Norwich provides good road links. The A149 gives access to the towns of Cromer, Sheringham, Holt, and Fakenham to the north, and Stalham, Potter Heigham, Wroxham, and Great Yarmouth to the south. The popular seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a 45-minute drive away and offers more in the way of shopping and entertainment opportunities.

Historic North Walsham has so much going for it; bags of community spirit, improved facilities, family-friendly, and situated close enough to larger towns and cities when it is really necessary.

    North Walsham Schools & Education

Relocating to a completely different area poses quite a challenge when you have children in tow, factoring in good schools can affect your location choice.

You will find that North Walsham has a good selection of local pre-schools, nurseries, primary and secondary schools. As with all locations, some schools perform better than others.

One of the best primaries is Millfield School, rated as “good”, Ofsted says.

North Walsham High School is the main secondary serving the town. In 2018, Ofsted reported it as “requiring improvement”, though is “taking effective action” to address its issues and regain its historic rating of “good”

There are 8 FE colleges across the county, however, Paston College is situated in the town.
Paston has a very good reputation with high pass rates leading to many of its students attending the prestigious universities of Oxford or Cambridge.
