Identified in the London Plan as one of 35 major centres in Greater London, Orpington forms part of the popular London Borough of Bromley, it has earned itself a very positive reputation in recent times.

Offering fast transport links into the Capital by rail within 23 minutes, the town also has the alternative of being close to the idyllic scenery that Kent (the Garden of England) provides.

Getting around by car is mostly speedy, via a network of roads whilst the M25 ring-road around London passes Orpington to the South of the town, although it does get congested at times.

The £10 million regeneration of Orpington High Street has totally transformed the area making shopping and recreational activities an absolute pleasure.

The additional benefit to these huge changes is clear. Employment is soaring and the whole local economy has received a much-needed boost particularly in the retail and leisure sectors.

You will find lots to do and see in the town and Orpington has a good assortment of great restaurants, pubs, and bars, but with London just 15 minutes away by train, entertainment is limitless.

If taking advantage of the lovely green spaces outdoors is more to your liking again, there are plenty of them. Plus, there is the opportunity of joining one of the local sports clubs, golf club or the Bromley Cricket Club.

The town centre is surrounded by some highly desirable villages, including Chelsfield, Knockholt, Farnborough, Keston and Pratts Bottom lovely rural areas.

The town certainly has plenty going on and its amenities are hard to beat. Add to this great schools and green spaces and you can see why Orpington is such a desirable location and a particular winner with families.

    Orpington Schools & Education

Before relocating to a new town, many parents nowadays take into consideration how well local schools perform. Homes situated within the catchment areas of good Ofsted rated schools are always in demand.

Orpington is well served, and the town contains a full range of primary and secondary schools which fall under the Bromley Local Education Authority.

The vast majority of schools at all levels have managed at least a “good” rating from Ofsted with Crofton Infant School and Crofton Junior School both having been awarded the enviable “outstanding” accolade.

“Outstanding” state secondaries include Newstead Wood School and St. Olave’s Grammar School which both select students on the basis of their performance in a highly competitive entrance examination.

The largest further education college in the area is Bromley College of Further & Higher Education. It is a partner college of six of the twelve schools of the University of Greenwich.

A well-regarded college, it has sites across Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich and Orpington and offers courses for students aged 16 upwards including adult education.
